We create natural, unfiltered beers based on classic recipes rooted in the tradition of artisanal brewing. Each batch is brewed by hand, using copper brewing equipment, just like artisans did in the 19th century.

Brewed with soul, step by step
At the Lodina Alus brewery, beer is brewed using traditional technology, combining ancient recipes and modern methods. It all starts with the selection of high-quality malt, hops and clean water. First, the malt is crushed and poured with hot water to form wort. Then, the wort is boiled together with hops to give the beer its characteristic aroma and bitterness.
After brewing, the wort is cooled and transferred to fermenters, where yeast is added. The fermentation process begins, which lasts several weeks. After that, the beer is aged at low temperatures to reach maturity and fullness of flavor. The final stage is filtration and bottling or kegging.
Each batch of Lodina Alus beer is made with love, adhering to high quality standards, and with respect for brewing culture.

The legend of Bauska beer began in 1873, when 32-year-old Theodor Lohding bought the Zellhert brewery from the Jewish businessman Judelovich and named it Theodor Lohding Brewery. By the end of the 19th century, the Lohdinga brewery was among the three largest industrial enterprises in Bauska, and was also one of the largest breweries in the region.
The beer was cooled using ice from the Nemunės River, which was cut in winter and stored in special cellars. At that time, the water level of the river was higher, so in order to strengthen the cellars and the bank, a concrete wall was built, which can still be seen when entering Bauska from the Riga side. Although Latvian newspapers wrote that Lodingas was Latvian, the businessman was an active member of the German-Baltic community of Bauska and Zemgale, supporting the German church and city charities.
In 1909, Lodingas' company produced products worth 134,195 rubles and had warehouses in Jelgava, Liepaja, Ventspils, Panevėžys and Pasvalys. In 1910, after his father's death, the management of the brewery was taken over by his eldest son Teodoras Bruno Lodingas. During the First World War, the brewery was closed. The brewery reopened in November 1919. During the First Republic, the brewery was called "Lodingas and Friends" and produced not only beer, but also seltzer and lemonade. In the late 1930s, the company employed about 30 people. During the years of independence, Bruno Lodingas was elected to the Bauska City Council several times and actively participated in the activities of local German public organizations. In 1939, like most German Baltics in Bauska, he left for Germany, and his company became state-owned.
During World War II, the brewery continued to operate, supplying Latvian legionnaires and residents of Riga. After the war, the Bauska Fruit and Vegetable Combine was established in the brewery buildings, which produced jams, compotes, pickled vegetables and lemonades. Beer production was discontinued in 1958. Later, the Bauska Malt Factory operated here, belonging to the Iecava “Latvijas balzams” branch, which ceased its activities in 1990. In 2007, beer production was resumed by UAB “Lodingo įmonė”. Three types of beer were produced – “Lodiņa gaišais”, “Senču” and “Lodiņa Posebšais”, as well as drinking water and kvass.
